We are so glad you "hopped by" !  Bunnies in Baskets is a fully volunteer run, 501 (c)(3) public charity.  Our volunteers rescue, foster, adopt, and provide huge doses of TLC (and medical care) to hundreds of neglected, abused, and/or abandoned rabbits every year.  They train the most affectionate, outgoing and people-curious rabbits to visit.

Do you wish to learn about becoming a BIB certified therapy rabbit team? Please read on!

                    Bunnies in Baskets Programs:

                    BIB Animal Assisted Activities (AAA)
AAA---A rabbit or bonded pair of rabbits provide opportunities for motivation, education or recreation to enhance quality of life. Bunnies in Baskets volunteers provide AAA in a variety of environments with rabbits that meet specific criteria.

                    BIB Animal Assisted Therapy(AAT)
AAT---is a goal directed intervention in which a rabbit or bonded pair of rabbits is delivered by a health or human service provider working within the scope of their profession. Bunnies in Baskets AAT is designed to promote improvement in human physical, social, emotional or cognitive function. BIB AAT is provided in a variety of settings and may be group or individual in nature. The process is documented and evaluated.

BIB Human Animal Support Services (HASS)
Volunteers with a rabbit or bonded pair of rabbits enhance and encourage responsible and humane interrelationships of people, rabbits and nature for small or large groups.

                    Benefits of BIB Programs
                    • a rabbit or bonded pair of rabbits may provide emotional and physical health benefits
                    • a rabbit or bonded pair of rabbits may serve as communication catalysts
                    • a rabbit or bonded pair of rabbits may serve as diversions during anxiety provoking procedures
                    • verbal communication and sight are not necessary for positive interactions with a rabbit or bonded pair of rabbits and these interactions may facilitate communication with people
                    • a rabbit or bonded pair of rabbits can be included in behavior modification programs as a source of support and diversion during threatening situations such as counseling
                    • a rabbit or bonded pair of rabbits may provide a type of “reality therapy” by empathizing with the rabbit's natural instincts and thus seeing life more objectively
                    • a rabbit or bonded pair of rabbits may provide contact comfort

From October 2009 to the present, we have enjoyed hundreds of  facility visits and spent thousands of hours (not including driving or grooming time) sharing bunnies with people, and people with bunnies.  We provide an experience of "instant happiness" with those who need comfort and companionship.

Veterinarians with rabbit experience routinely evaluate the medical and behavioral health of BIB rabbits. This evaluation includes a thorough physical examination, screening for selected infectious and parasitic diseases, evaluation of behavior and lifestyle factors, a reproductive health assessment, and an evaluation for congenital diseases and/or conditions.

We carry comprehensive general liability insurance for our volunteers and consult American Veterinary Medical Association guidelines.
